Frequently Asked Questions

What is a dojo?

A dojo is simply a martial arts school.

Do I need previous martial arts training?

Previous martial arts training is not necessary. Our instructors teach you the basics and help you advance when they see you’re ready.

Do I have to be in shape to start martial arts training?

No, you don’t. We work with students at whatever fitness level they may be. Martial arts if done regularly can help you get in shape.

Can I tryout a class before I sign up?

Absolutely! We encourage everyone to tryout the class they are interested in before signing up. It’s a perfect chance to see if the class is right for you.

What should I wear for my tryout class?

Wear comfortable clothes, something you are able to move around in. Athletic pants or sweats and a t-shirt work best.

Can I come watch a class?

You’re more than welcome to come and observe a class.

What’s the youngest age you teach?

Our Lil Warrior program starts at age three. Our Keichu-Do class begins at age five, and our Seki-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu class begins at age ten.

I have a five year old, which class would be appropriate for him/her?

We recommend most five year olds start in the Lil Warrior class. This will allow them to learn the basics of martial arts as well as become accustomed to the instructors and the dojo. When the instructors see that they are ready they can graduate into the Keichu-Do class.

When can I start?

Anytime. You don’t need to wait for the first of the month. You can join a class as long as we have space available.

How do I get started and how do I sign up?

It’s easy. Simply come ten minutes before class to fill out the necessary paperwork. Parents must accompany minors. Wear something comfortable and be ready to work hard and have some fun!

Is there a contract?

Currently, we do not do contracts. Tuition is paid on a month by month basis.

When is tuition due?

Tuition is due by the 7th of every month. Tuition payments can be dropped off at the front desk or mailed to the dojo at 1778 South Broadway Santa Maria, CA 93454.
